The Explorer offers guests state of the art appointments: nine spacious staterooms and one beautifully appointed Explorer Suite (all with expansive windows, DVD/CD player, tv, telephone and minibar), two sun decks, whirlpool, outdoor bar, lounge, music and DVD library and wireless internet access. You’ll savor international chefs’ finest cuisines in the air-conditioned restaurant or on the alfresco aft deck. This is the ideal vessel to enjoy a surfing vacation with your wife or partner.
An Explorer cruise is the ultimate way to conquer empty surf breaks. Tropicsurf’s philosophy is that we best capture the true spirit of surfing adventure when we take you to secluded breaks. Between 2007 and 2009 with hundreds surfing North Male, TS guests enjoyed empty line-ups on a majority of days! You will visit remote regions - often with no others surfing. If we do come by others, it’s normally possible to move elsewhere or take turns. Our guests return year after year because the Tropicsurf experience is peaceful, relaxing and in the true aloha spirit. Our 12 years experience and intricate knowledge has uncovered dozens of waves – many of which are prized secrets.
At some locations we can split groups utilizing small waves / big waves on either side of a channel. This caters to differing abilities and further minimizes numbers in the water.
You don’t have to be good to enjoy – this is an exciting but safe trip that can be enjoyed by most abilities. Entry level surfers should be able to angle green waves in order to enjoy the long, easy rides in fun-sized waves.
Experienced surfers in peak swell season (June to September) could reasonably expect a double or triple overhead swell offering world-class surf.
Most guests tend towards intermediate ability – competent but not keen on dicing with death. They find nirvana because typical trips enjoy chest-high to overhead waves suiting those who just want to relax and have fun with nobody out.
For surfers seeking new frontiers and un-crowded set ups, Tropicsurf Explorer trips offer a fresh and exciting journey amongst the remote Outer Atolls. Four Seasons Explorer can travel faster than any other surfari boat in the country (17 knots). Combined with an ability to steam overnight, this allows us to venture further a-field to access a larger range of secluded breaks with less travel time. Many line-ups are empty and crowds are rare.In fact the likelihood of seeing any other Westerner is low.
Another advantage of this tour is you’ll access breaks for every possible swell and wind direction – something few operators offer. Sophisticated web forecasting allows our team to accurately determine swell and wind forecasts. The complex bathymetry of the atolls means there are often hidden gems that other operators simply do not know about.
Between 2007 and 2009 Tropicsurf guests enjoyed dozens of overhead days when the crowded North Male breaks were waist high.
You don’t have to be good to join us! Our specialty is in providing an exciting but safe surfing vacation that can be enjoyed by all abilities. At the lower end, if you can just stand up and barely cut across a green wave, your Tropicsurf guide will take you to some easy, long-peeling waves that you’ll fall in love with. Even in the hugest of swells, our boat can deliver you to chest high fun waves you’ll be comfortable with. At the other end, experienced surfers travelling in peak season should expect a double to triple overhead swell offering world-class waves as good as you’ll find anywhere. And finally, surfers of average ability who have no interest in dicing with death will find their utopia. Many Tropicsurf tours specialize in chest-high to a- touch-over-head waves that suit short, hybrid or longboarders who just want to relax in the surf and have fun.
Tropicsurf caters to your ability. We use a trip grading system to highlight the tour date that best suits your comfort zone. This allows us to group like-minded surfers making consensus on break selection easy. Simply choose the tour (small, medium or open) that matches your skill and you’ll travel with surfers of similar ability and enjoy the experience so much more.
