The beach in front of the hotel regularly has good banks for the late afternoon session and is also perfectly suited for private beginner experiences on higher tides. In Bali, Tropicsurf utilizes its’ “Ticket To Ride’ surf pass system and there are a MAXIMUM FOUR SURFERS IN-HOUSE AT ANY ONE TIME. TTR is cheaper when pre-purchased before you arrive and the daily rate decreases the longer you stay.

Facts

With a population of 300 000, only 250 of the 1190 islands are inhabited, with an increasing amount set aside for tourist resorts. The island chain extends 820km North to South and is 130km at its widest point. The islands are spread over 26 atolls. The word “atoll” is the only English language word that was derived from the Maldivian language.

The Maldives is an independent republic. It always has been except for a 15 year Portugese rule in the 16th century. It was a British protectorate from 1887-1965, however this did not interfere with the internal affairs of the country. The Maldives was granted full sovereignty in 1965.

The local language is Dhivehi and is written from right to left. It has strong Arabic roots. English is the second language and is spoken mainly in resorts and commercial centres. Currency is the Rufiya note. Larees are the coins. Male is the capital and business centre.

The Maldivians are a mixed race with most showing Aryan or Dravadian features. They are strict Sunni Muslims. Shops close during prayer time and Friday is a holiday. When we visit local villages, the people are friendly but shy. Tourists are generally very safe and crime is not a major problem. However it’s important to respect their local culture. When visiting villages men should wear shirts and shorts at all times. Women should cover up by wearing longer shorts or sarong with a shirt or blouse with sleeves covering the shoulders. At all times on the boat, topless and/or nude sunbathing is prohibited.

Mei and I have had a truly wonderful few days with you. You have been a tremendous instructor, guide, mentor, friend and nursemaid(!) to the entire family over the last year as we have immersed ourselves in surfing, and all of these qualities came even more into focus this week as you took us to waves and places that have been truly life-changing for us. We have been so fortunate to experience such perfect breaks and to have them completely to ourselves and this would never have been possible without you.

Schedule

Tropicsurf runs private charters on application all year round. We also set a schedule around June and July annually with excellent rates and strong incentives on offer to private groups for this period. 

Booking are taken on an individual basis for our 'shared' trips and as private charters for groups of 12 or more.
